Stainless, Special Steels & Special Alloys (S4A) Cluster
Task of the Cluster:
The designated task of the Stainless, Special Steels & Special Alloys (S4A) Cluster is to facilitate its members to fulfil their individual obligations under REACH. The Cluster will provide a means by which its members may collectively address common issues of concern, reach consensus on such issues and, where appropriate, share data as well as undertake new REACH-related studies on shared cost basis and to minimise costs. As and when necessary, subgroups will be formed to address the specificities of stainless steel, special steels and special alloys.
In particular, it is envisaged that the Cluster will address the following:-
- Map the uses of stainless steel, special steels and special alloys
- Identify human health and environmental exposures related to those uses
- Provide downstream user exposure and use data to substance producers and/or their consortia
- Identify substances for pre-registration and registration
- Address common substance-related issues (e.g. alloys, articles, high alloy slags, scrap, safety recommendations for welding fume, etc)
- Develop common interpretations where uncertainties exist in the REACH text
- Contribute to the REACH Cluster WG process
- Prepare a REACH-compliant Safety Data Sheets and associated Exposure Scenarios for stainless steel, special steels and special alloys
