Provides an internal ongoing forum:
- For discussion of common issues and, where necessary,
- For the development of a European steel industry consensus on REACH-related issues,
- To prevent duplication of work,
- To identify existing data, and
- Highlight research and studies for cost sharing and/or that could be exchanged at a later date
Mission:
- Gather existing human health and environmental data for iron (Fe, Fe2+, Fe3+)
- Identify data gaps
- Determine which data gaps need to be filled and initiate studies
- Hold and maintain data
- Prepare technical dossier for iron steel producer applications (Fe, Fe2+, Fe3+)
- Address common issues and agree common positions
- Identify substances for pre-registration dossiers
- Develop common pre-registration dossiers
- Avoid duplication of work
- Address common substance-related issues (e.g. alloys, articles, stainless steel slag, etc)
- Develop common interpretations where uncertainties exist in the REACH text to support the iron dossier for steel producer applications.
- Prepare for the SIEFs
